What's a Physician Assistant?

Physician assistants are important members of the health care team. They care for patients, under the supervision of a physician, in a range of medical settings and specialties. 

Program at a Glance

The Physician Assistant Studies program begins in May and runs continuously for 30 months, with 14 months of academic lectures followed by 16 months of clinical rotations at sites throughout Texas.

Science has always interested Samantha Gonzalez, who thought she’d one day go to medical school. But after learning about what physician assistants do, she was intrigued by the versatility of the profession. Gonzalez, who earned a bachelor’s in biology from Texas A&M International University and a master’s in medical laboratory sciences from ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë, is in her second year of the  at The University of Texas Education and Research Center at Laredo.
